Dr. Roger Lee Mendoza, of the Department of Management, was recently awarded the Pearson Prize for Excellence in Higher Education. He was cited for “Exemplary Teaching and Learning,” particularly for “using knowledge, strategy, process, and behaviors to create positive student outcomes.” Awarded by Pearson Education, Dr. Mendoza is among the five winners of this prize out of a robust pool of 615 faculty nominees nationwide from all fields of study. He has established himself as a sought-after professor in the College of Business and Economics, with students leaving empowered and prepared to enter the workforce.
Dr. Mendoza’s dedication to academia and his research and consulting expertise in the field of healthcare management are evidenced by his over 60 peer-reviewed publications, over 15 presentations in learned conferences, and consulting work for health insurance and hedge-fund companies. In May 2023, he was also selected one of three winners nationwide of the McGraw-Hill Pathfinder Award for teaching excellence.
Dr. Mendoza currently serves as a member of the Outstanding Professor Awards Selection Committee, Range Elevation Committee, and Program Review Subcommittee of the Academic Senate; as vice-president of both the Phi Kappa Phi (general scholastic) and Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics) international honor societies; as a faculty coach to the annual and statewide Healthcare College Bowl; and as faculty adviser to Kalahi, the large Filipino Student Association, all at Cal State LA.
